IPI certified against ASI Performance Standard

IPI certified against ASI Performance Standard

IPI has been certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) for its commitment to the responsible management of aluminium and it is among the few companies in the world that demonstrate sustainable stewardship of this material.

IPI is proud to announce yet another result that proves the continuous commitment adopted by our company in preserving the environment.

What is the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative is a not-for-profit standard setting and certification organisation for the aluminium value chain.

Certification to the ASI Performance Standard enables the aluminium industry, as well as the users of aluminium, to demonstrate their commitment to social, environmental and ethical standards, and it defines different principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain and to support responsible supply chains.

IPI's sustainability commitment: how to minimise the environmental impact of aluminium

Aseptic carton packaging material is sustainable and mainly made of paperboard. The other materials used are polyethylene – which protects the contents from external humidity – and a very thin layer of aluminium, acting as barrier for the liquid food against external agents, while preserving the organoleptic properties of the liquid in ambient temperatures.

IPI takes the environment very seriously and is fully aware that it is everyone's duty to preserve it in the best possible way. IPI is therefore deeply proud to have obtained the ASI Performance Standard Certification, that includes IPI among the few companies to serve as a broader reference for the establishment and improvement material stewardship initiatives in aluminium supply chains

IPI, leading supplier of aseptic carton packaging solutions for the beverage and liquid food industry, will continue doing its best, actively engaging in actions that can preserve our environment also by reducing the CO2 emissions deriving from its packaging containing aluminium. IPI, responding to the principles and criteria of governance of the ASI Performance Standard, is committed to:

•Elaborate product Life Cycle Assessments, whose results enable IPI to understand how the use of aluminium affects the environment in terms of CO2 emissions;

•Continue to engage in adopting clear sustainability objectives in the process of designing and developing new products;

•Pursue a continuous improvement in waste reduction in the process of packaging material production in general and aluminium in particular,

•Continue to implement strategies to encourage the recycling of packaging at the end of its life. The aseptic carton packaging material is completely recyclable. In fact, in addition to the paperboard from which new paper-based products can be obtained, also aluminium and polyethylene, after being divided from paperboard, can be coupled to form the EcoAllene®, a plastic material that can be used to produce various commonly used objects;

•Continue to innovate to make the aluminium layer of the packages as thin as possible, while investigating more sustainable alternative barrier materials.

We work responsibly every day to improve ourselves bringing liquid food products to consumers in a safe and sustainable way. In doing this, we also support our suppliers to enhance transparency and promote responsible practices throughout the supply chain.

Our carton packs – made of paper fibre from certified, responsible sources – include an ultra-thin barrier layer of aluminium foil. IPI strongly supports ASI’s commitment to promote the responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The ASI certification provides us with a good way to qualify aluminium suppliers by considering strict environmental, ethical and social standards.

We are committed to making everyday life better for everyone - everywhere. Responsibly.
